Why am I getting the error message "Exception" when attempting a UCC time zone change?

Symptom

The Control Center GUI returns a Stack Trace when trying to change the time zone under Server Settings.

NOTE: This is one of several symptoms of the following problem.

Problem

A database issue is preventing the Control Center from saving the new information. This can be caused by a misconfiguration of the database, which occurs most commonly when the hostname of the Control Center is changed.

Affects: All versions of Control Center and EMS.

Solution

Verify the contents of the /etc/hosts file on the Control Center and then restart the server.

Here is an example of a good hosts file:

[root@ems18 ~]# cat /etc/hosts
# Do not remove the following line, or various programs
# that require network functionality will fail.
127.0.0.1    localhost ems18

Here is a bad hosts file:

[root@ems18 ~]# cat /etc/hosts
# Do not remove the following line, or various programs
# that require network functionality will fail.
127.0.0.1    ems19
[root@ems18 ~]#

In the second file, the entry for localhost is missing.  Also, root's prompt does not match the entry in hosts.

If you make changes to your hosts file, be sure to restart your EMS to ensure all programs take the appropriate changes.  Run shutdown -r now to restart the EMS.
